Dodomeki, which translates to “100 100 eyes,” is a reference to cursed women known for their penchant for stealing money. As a result of this curse, they underwent a transformation that bestowed upon them unnaturally long arms. They symbolize their inclination toward theft. These elongated limbs sprouted hundreds of small, bird-like eyes. In Japan, people colloquially called coins ‘chōmoku,’ which means ‘bird’s eye,’ due to the hole in the center.

The Dodomeki legend is both captivating and mysterious, offering a glimpse into a unique aspect of Japanese folklore. Our Dodomeki Art Print allows you to dive deeper into this mythology and explore the stories and tales associated with this enigmatic character.
